Covid-19 Tier 3 Area Info
We are required by our Local Authority to advise customers of current government guidance for people within a tier 3 area:
- You should try to avoid travelling outside the very high alert level area you are in or entering a very high alert level area, other than for things like work, education or youth services, to meet caring responsibilities or if you are travelling through as part of a longer journey.
- You should avoid staying overnight in another part of the UK if you are resident in a very high alert level area, or avoid staying overnight in a very high alert level area if you are resident elsewhere.
- In addition, Government advice states further: We are advising people not to travel into or out of an area if it has been categorized as a very high alert level area. This is part of wider measures to help manage the risk of transmission. You can continue to travel into or out of very high alert level areas if you need to for work, education, to access youth services or because of caring responsibilities. If you are a resident in a very high alert level area, we ask you to avoid staying overnight in another part of the UK, except if you need to for work, education or caring responsibilities.
Based on the above Government information and advice for Tier 3 restrictions, travel to DWYBs is considered non-essential and should not take place. This applies to both spectators, racers and their pit crew. Santa Pod has been formally requested by Bedford Borough Council to cancel all tickets sold to all persons living in a Tier 3 area. Please DO NOT purchase tickets if you are in, or will be in a Tier 3 area by the time of the event.
Covid-19 Tier 2 area info:

- You must not socialize with anybody outside of your household or support bubble in any indoor setting, whether at home or in a public place you can continue to travel to venues or amenities that are open, for work or to access education, but should look to reduce the number of journeys you make where possible
- In addition, Government advice states further: You may continue to travel to venues or amenities which are open, for work, voluntary, charitable or youth services, or to access education, within a high alert level area, but you should and aim to reduce the number of journeys you make where possible. You can still go on holiday outside of high alert level areas, but you must only do this with people in your household or support bubble.
All those attending DWYB events must abide by Santa Pods Social Distancing, Hygiene and Safety Measures at all times.
Based on the Government information and advice for Tier 2 restrictions, travel to DWYBs is not for work, voluntary, charitable or youth services, or to access education. Therefore spectators, racers and their pit crews should consider the above information and determine if it is appropriate to attend the event. Santa Pod has been formally requested to provide this advice to all ticket holders living in a Tier 2 area and offer to cancel any tickets, providing a full credit to account to all persons living in a Tier 2 area if they determine it is not appropriate to attend the event.
If you do not deem it appropriate to attend, please do not purchase a ticket for this event.
We apologize for the inconvenience and hope that you can appreciate the need to comply with these instructions not just for Santa Pod, but the whole Country.
The safety and welfare of participants and our staff is our highest priority and we have been working hard to ensure our site is Covid secure. In preparation for our Drift What Ya Brung days, we are introducing new hygiene and safety measures around site in line with government guidance.
To allow for social distancing and to ensure everyone has plenty of track time safely, we are limiting the number of tickets available each day on a first-come, first served basis. Plus, a limit on non driver tickets up to 5 per driver, in line with the government’s rule on gatherings of no more than 6 people. We ask that everyone must socially distance themselves when working on and around vehicles.
New Covid-19 Signing On Procedure!
Please note there will be no signing on, on the day. The sign on procedure is now built into the online ticket purchasing process but you will still need to present your driving licence on the day.

Who?: DWYB is for anyone from complete novices wanting tuition to expert drifters wanting quality seat time without authorities or kerbs to worry about. Drift cars are rear wheel drive and usually light to moderate weight. The most popular cars for drifting in the UK are Nissans (S13/S14/S15 and GTS Skylines), Toyotas (AE86), Mazdas (MX5 and RX-7), Fords (Old School Escorts and Sierras) and BMWs (3 Series) but many other cars can be and are used for drifting. All vehicles taking part should be silenced.
How Many?: DWYB days are limited to 80 people per day to ensure maximum track time and with several prepared areas and courses there is no shortage of drift time.
Tyres: This is Drift What Ya Brung so you will need your own car and tyres. There are full tyre changing facilities on site with a charge of £5 per rim. Tyre disposal is £2 per tyre or you must take your used tyres away with you.
Passenger Rides: If you don't have your own car or it's too precious then passenger rides are available, just ask a marshall.
Facilities: There are toilet facilities on site and the Cafe will be open from 9am to 4pm. If you run short on fuel, VP Racing Fuel is available from the Pod Shop along with helmets, DWYB Hoodies & stickers and Santa Pod merchandise.
Tuition: Tuition if required is from very experienced drifters and will start with basic donuts and figure of eights.
Driving license: A full driving license is required to participate in the DWYB events.
Noise Restriction: There is a 105db Noise restriction in place for drifting so please ensure you car has mufflers and bring bungs if it is very loud. If people get turned away due to being too loud they will be credited for another day.
Tracks: All the features mentioned above apply to everything that goes on at DWYB however we have several different track layouts for you to choose from depending on your level of ability.
There are 4 play pens for practicing donuts and figure eights, an intermediate kidney track, as well as an advanced track.
The DWYB advanced track is more suited to drivers with some experience looking to further improve skills. The larger course requires a higher level of driving skill and machine setup making it a perfect track to practice on for those who wish to turn a wheel between competitive events, try out new settings on their cars, or progress to the next level.
Helmets are recommended on the advanced track.
Drivers will have to prove they are competent at basic drifting on the intermediate track before they are allowed on the advanced track. Drivers wishing to practice twining at DWYB days will have to prove they are competent on the large track solo first.

What is Drifting?: "Drifting refers to a driving technique and to a sport based on the technique. A car is said to be drifting when the rear slip angle is greater than the front slip angle, and the front wheels are pointing in the opposite direction to the turn (e.g. car is turning left, wheels are pointed right), and the driver is controlling these factors." wikipedia.org
